WAHMs: Work at Home Moms
There are many fantastic reasons why work at home jobs and home-based businesses are perfect for moms (and stay-at home dads too, for that matter). Many parents are choosing this increasingly popular option so as to earn an income while still being able to spend more time with their family than their peers working “regular” jobs. Working at home has become such a popular and widespread phenomenon among moms that they now have their own acronym: WAHM for, you guessed it - Work At Home Moms
Though full-time work-at-home jobs are readily available, many moms are also discovering the benefits of working at home part-time. This allows them to contribute to their household income without overextending themselves to the detriment of their family, the very ones the moms are working at home to be near.
With work at home jobs, moms can arrange to be at home when the children return home from school or when a child is home ill or if someone needs to be home to accept an important delivery, or greet a utility, or repair person.
Many work at home jobs allow you to set your own schedule and even deviate from it as needed, making you available spur of the moment should a child (or you) have a doctor’s appointment or a big game or play or other school or extracurricular event. No longer would you have to miss this pivotal moments in your family’s lives.
With many work at home jobs you can work odd hours to suit your family’s schedule. You can coordinate your schedule around your husband’s, so that when he’s at work, you’re at work, and when he’s home, you two can spend quality time together too. Or, alternatively, a work at home mom might spend all day with her children while her husband is at work and then go to work herself when her husband comes home. Which is right for you depends on your individual circumstances (and quite often on the ages of your child or children).
More and more employers are starting to recognize the benefits of work at home moms to them too, realizing that they can outsource many internal tasks domestically rather than doing it overseas. It’s quite possible in fact that the current employer of a mom working a regular, on-site job would be more than willing to arrange a work at home solution for her, if she just broached the subject.
A work at home job gives moms the best of both worlds: the ability to care for the ones they love on both a financial and emotional level. Whether it’s to increase your household income or spend more time at home with your family or for a desire to be your own boss, in charge of your own schedule, avoiding long commutes, and working in an environment where you feel comfortable, becoming a WAHM is an increasingly attractive choice for moms everywhere.
